Description

Join Bishop Paul Swarbrick for the Anniversary Pilgrimage Walk for John Bradburne

On the 11th September 2021 the John Bradburne Memorial Trust will be walking up Cross Fell near Skirwith to mark the 42nd Anniversary of the death of John Bradburne. John was murdered on the 5th September 1979.

John had walked up Cross Fell many times as a young boy and is mentioned in his poetry many times, albeit Crossfell.  The walk will be led by the Bishop of Lancaster and the Bishop for Africa for the Bishops’ Conference, Paul Swa rbrick. Prayers will take place on the top of Cross Fell or in the Church of St Lawrence on our return to Kirkland depending on the weather.

We will start the walk from Kirkland, parking in front of the Church, St Lawrence. Grid Ref: 645 325. The walk will commence promptly at 11.00 am. https://goo.gl/maps/ejujUQ2MMp7ciTVK7

The Walk is 8.28 Miles (13Km, 6 Hrs, 700m ascent. Cross Fell proudly holds the title as England’s highest point outside of the Lake District. Once on the top, on a clear day, the views of sea, valleys and fells are epic.

This is a fairly strenuous walk to the summit of Cross Fell and requires a fairly good fitness level. Please bring with you, good strong footwear, warm and waterproof clothing. A backpack containing food and water.

Whilst joining in the walk is free of charge, we do kindly request a donation to JBMS.
