Starting a Friends of John Bradburne Prayer Group

People are inspired by the Spirit to join together. Some people may want to start a group because they have heard or read about John Bradburne's life and writings. Some people may have been out to Mutemwa in Zimbabwe where he spent the last ten years of his life, and have been touched by this experience or who have heard from others about their visit there, some will be invited to join by other people who are interested.
To help guide people, here are some notes to help set up a prayer group in order to pray for John Bradburne's Cause for beatification, to pray for various intentions asking John's powerful intercession for healing and help in a group context, simply to give thanks, and to pray for the work of the John Bradburne Memorial Society to flourish and grow, and for the work at Mutemwa and the people in Zimbabwe, and to bring others to know about John's life which is an inspiration to many.

Regular Meeting

The Prayer group should meet regularly but not too often if people find that difficult. It is better to be realistic at the beginning. A meeting each month may be best perhaps as people become involved, you can hold meetings more often.

Where to hold the meeting

Somewhere quiet and comfortable. You will need to be able to make a cup of tea or coffee at the end of the meeting. Make sure wheelchair users can get to the meeting place easily if possible. It is a good idea to use a religious picture or a candle to focus on, it will remind you that Jesus is present with the group

How to run the group

Try to agree with everyone how the group is to be run. This will unite the group and give people confidence to share with one another. It will also show that everyone can listen carefully. Agree what time you will start and finish.Keep to those times.

How to organise the time in the best way

It is best to keep things simple and just have tea or coffee and biscuits. Offer to share costs between the members of the group. This is very imporant if the meeting is at someone's house.

Personal Sharing

Encourage everyone to share their experiences. This will help to bring the group together. It will help them to understand, respect and trust each other. Everyone will have something to say about their life and their spiritual journey. Hearing about them will help everyone to understand each other. It will also show how Jesus is with us in different ways.

Listening

When you are sharing thoughts, make sure speakers are not interrupted. It is very important to listen.

Building a Prayer Community

Your group is trying to build a prayer community.Over the time you meet, the members of your group should find a real sense of togetherness and unity. Make sure that you also welcome new members from time to time.
